Had a big “thank you, Jesus!” moment tonight.

Had a big “thank you, Jesus!” moment tonight. The husky went over to the farm at supper time and wouldn’t come home with us after, so she left her usual spot ‘guarding’ her chickens. I was outside planting my delphinium seedlings, went over to close the coop and found Heihei on the outside! She’s really, really sweet, but she’s shy and definitely gets pushed around a bit from Chickaletta and Richard has too big of a crush on her and she does NOT appreciate it 🤦🏼‍♀️ But she let me grab her and I safely put her back in, found where she got out and temporarily fixed it, and will definitely secure it properly in the morning. Maybe she wouldn’t have tried to get out if Kihei was home...but I’m very grateful to not have had to find that out!

Another gift I found for Jonathan yesterday was a $15 red no-name tractor from Walmart. Forgot to give it to him yesterday in all the craziness, so he was elated to have it today and loved it so much he brought it to bed with Kitty Fox and his new Fantasia Mickey! 🥰 #🐱🦊🧒🏼

It’s a big day for us today! First 2 egg day! Chickaletta and Henny Penny have been taking turns every other day laying eggs 🤔🤷🏼‍♀️ but today they both laid! Chickaletta had JUST laid when I checked and the egg was so warm 🥰 Now waiting for Heihei to lay, she’s definitely still a bit anxious and has had the hardest time adjusting.

Jonathan is 4! Another family birthday celebrated

Jonathan is 4! Another family birthday celebrated during COVID-19. What a time. Honestly, this is the exact same birthday Jonathan would have had as a seeding baby anyway. We had pizza with our cohort farming family, had Mickey Mouse cake and Jonathan got totally spoiled with presents! He had a full day playing with brothers and cousins and got to go seeding with Uncle Craig, a great day had. Also some great news on his birthday, Alberta is rolling out phases of a getting-back-to-normal plan starting on Monday. 🙌🏻 Even if it’s slow—hallelujah!! Happy birthday, my big hunk of a boy, Jonathan!

Well, this is my life now! Coffee outside on an absolutely beautiful morning and 3 new chickens 🐓 in our little flock, and introductions are going pretty good! Joining us is Big Bertha, an older barred rock, Heihei, a crazy little floofy white Ameracauna, and my brown little Henny Penny. Chickaletta, our first hen, sure is sounding off her disgust, but Richard the rooster, is putting all of his girls in their place. So far I just have to keep an eye on Hei Hei and make sure she has access to water because Chickaletta won’t let her near it so far! These quaranchickens sure are fun!

Happy #EarthDay! It has been such beautiful weathe

Happy #EarthDay! It has been such beautiful weather this week, we’ve really needed it. I’ve started moving seedlings outside, the cool weather-loving varieties like ranunculus, anemones, snapdragons and larkspur, and the boys have had a blast digging around in the garden. We should hopefully be in the fields for seeding next week, so our natural farm isolation is about to happen regardless of COVID-19!
