Babies, Babies, Babies

I swear, you guys…if I wasn’t pregnant and due in 5ish weeks…I’d be aching for a baby right now! Melissa just had her 2nd baby girl and there’s too many others in the blogosphere to even mention on here that have welcomed newborns in the last few weeks and/or are due in the next few weeks. I also have a few babies in my life and I got to see them all this week. Ladies…start your ovaries!

First up was Blake. He just turned 7 weeks old (what!?) but he was 6.5 weeks when these pics were taken. He’s so alert and was fascinated by his play mat and the musical star, just like Braden was at that age! Jay used to call it “baby TV”!

Next we headed to Ben & Jess’s and we got to visit Abby! She’s now 5.5 months old and is loving her solid foods! I just love how expressive her little hands are in some of these photos.

Oh I love her and wished they all lived closer! My best friend Natalie had her 2nd baby on August 31 and I got to meet Reid Andrew, 3 weeks old!

I love that picture of big sister Sophia loving on her new baby brother! Makes me REALLY excited to meet Squishy in the next 5-6 weeks or so!

Are there lots of babies in your life right now too?

P.S. Pretty please keep voting for us, we’re still in the top 50…but barely! Okay…I’ll stop shamelessly asking now and rely on you to remember now every day! ;)

Blake & Bump Cuddles

Blake is already 3.5 weeks old, and I’ve only been able to visit him 3 times! With me finishing up work and just the busy-ness of life…things just catch up on a person. I hadn’t even gotten any good snuggles in yet, because anytime I’ve seen him…I’ve been cooking suppers! But, I finally got my time last night after supper! Blake was very content to have snuggles with Squishy :)

(Yes, his lips are blue/purple…from gentian violet!)
And since we have been so busy, I haven’t even snapped any “good” photos of him yet :( But here’s some from a couple of weeks ago that never got posted, when we went over with supper so Jay could meet Blake!

Big Brother Boot Camp

Braden, Me, & AbbyA lot of people having been asking me lately “is Braden excited about being a big brother?” and “so what does Braden think of the baby?” Well, Braden is only 2.5 but he’s a smart little guy. He loves his little baby cousins Abby & Blake and he does know that there is a growing baby in my tummy. What he doesn’t know, which would be impossible to explain to him at his age, is that one day, in about 11 weeks or so (ACK!) the baby will come out of my tummy, mommy will disappear for a day or two [insert tears here], and then mommy will come home with this baby. And then we’ll keep it. And then it will have mommy’s (almost) undivided attention for quite some period of time! Braden has never had seperation anxiety from me or really shown any signs of jealousy towards me spending time with other (especially younger) children. But, I guess we’ll see!
Smiley Girl!
In the meantime, Abby has provided us with almost 2 weeks worth of Big Brother Boot Camp in 2 separate visits! Jess was so amazingly patient with Braden, I really appreciated that. In training Braden is learning

  • Not to slam doors
  • To be quiet when baby is sleeping (even to this day when I tell him to be quite he responds “Baby Abby is sleepin’!”)
  • To be gentle
  • Not to pick up babies – also no hitting, kicking, etc even if babies are kicking their legs around!

I’m sure there’s much much much more things that we need to address…but he’ll learn soon enough! Abby reeeeeeeeeally makes me want a girl, but then Blake reeeeeeeeeeeeally wants me to have another little baby boy! Braden was so gentle and sweet when he met Blake at the hospital, I can’t wait for him to be a big brother!

Aaaaand one more for those of you whose ovaries are aching for a baby girl!

Also, I’m 29 weeks pregnant today…and I only have 2 more shifts left…and I will be done work on Wednesday morning…and I am SO happy! Braden’s been under the weather which means extra snuggles for me…and I ain’t complainin’!

Afternoon snuggles on the "chouch".

Is It Fall Yet?

As I sit here on a calm Saturday morning, it is cool enough to wear yoga pants and a sweater this morning whilst I sip my coffee. This…is bliss. We have had a record breaking summer for high temperatures (okay, I don’t know that for a fact, but is sure feels like it! Definitely the hottest summer I’ve lived here) and this pregnant mama is ready for the cooler weather that fall brings. I’m not one to thrive in a hot, humid climate…so this 30+ degree weather…I was not made for. It’s not what we sign up for living in the prairies in Alberta!
I am also at the park by the river watching B play and Squishy kick realizing I reeeeally need another pedicure!Plus? I’m burnt out. Since the beginning of July, my schedule has been GO!GO!GO! If I wasn’t working 2-3 shifts a week we were always busy. We were out of town or doing day trips to the city, camping, the lake, our BC vacation, swimming lessons…busy busy!…I wanted a busy summer and I got it. And now, I want summer to be over. I just want to relax. I want to stay in my own house one full day and not be committed to going anywhere. I think that’s why I’ve not been feeling as good with this pregnancy. Busy, on my feet, plus all the heat…makes me sore and achy, so I’m looking forward to relaxing. Well, as much relaxing as I can get with a 2.5 year old to take care of! In the next 3 months, I want lots of coffee visits with friends, play dates with Luke, and snuggles with Blake, and a visit or two to see my mom, GG, and to see Ben, Jess, & Abby’s new house. I want to get my maternity pictures taken with Katie. I want to do lots of baking and cooking for harvest. I just want life to calm down before Squishy turns it upside down again (and I mean that in the best of ways!) in November. I want to enjoy a date with my husband, it’s been far too long.

Super lazy Sunday. We're all tired and getting sick
Anyone else burnt out from a busy summer? Don’t get me wrong…I’ve loved this summer. Braden had SO much fun and he’s at such an enjoyable age. Nothing terrible at all about these twos for us, and that’s the truth! But I want to enjoy home time and savor these last 12 weeks as a family of 3. I look so forward to meeting Squishy, but I need to cherish some down time and unwind from the summer shenanigans. I was going to write our “what we’ve done this summer” list. But just thinking about it makes me more exhausted, so I’ll spare us all!
I think my last summer activity will be another trip to the zoo on a cooler day. I did buy a season pass after all…so I might as well make it worth my while! It’s fun seeing Braden truly enjoy all these activities this year, this age has just been awesome!
