Sorry, my sweet Ethan, you didn’t get a “first day of kindergarten” post like Braden, you get a first MONTH of kindergarten because that’s about the pace I’m working at these days!
I was slightly worried in the back of my mind about putting Ethan into kindergarten at the age of 4, especially since Braden was a whole 9 months older when he started and it was never an option to push him into kindergarten at 4. I knew Ethan outgrew playschool, but I wondered if he would be able to handle kindergarten. He was very excited to ride the bus and start kindergarten, he talked about it all summer. I’m glad he was enthusiastic about it, but he’s always pushed back on learning when I’ve tried to help. I know he is smart, but he is also stubborn.
I’m very proud that Ethan has done so well in his first month of kindergarten. He is writing very well, he is starting to spell his name by himself, he’s counting great, but he needs to work on some letter recognition, but it’s still very early. He proudly read his first sight word book to me and I was so impressed!
He’s making new friends in his class as there’s only 3 other kids from his playschool class in that are in his kindergarten class, including his cousin Blake. There are two kindergarten classes this year, which made me very happy for the smaller class sizes! He’s in the Monday and Wednesday class (full days) and he goes on Fridays too, some weeks.
I can’t wait to see him grow this year and I already can’t believe that he’ll be in grade 1 full time next year!
