The last first birthday party ever for our family on both sides. For all of our babies first birthdays I’ve gone with their nursery theme. Giraffe/safari for Braden, whales for Ethan, so it was an obvious choice to do a fox first birthday party for Jonathan.
No formal invitation for Jonathan’s first birthday, I really, really kept it simple, especially because I was hosting Easter supper right after we had his party in the afternoon. It was really hard to find fox-themed party decor in Canada, luckily OpenAParty had their fox 1st birthday stuff on clearance, but I had to ship it to my mom as they didn’t recognize our town as a “major centre” in Canada. So weird, but I’m glad I was able to receive them, regardless.
Since there wasn’t a ton to choose from, I got the table cloth and utensils from our local Dollarama and have plenty of paper straws to choose from, from parties past. I ordered napkins, plates, cups, decor and party favours from the website at a very good price!
I have ordered cakes in the past, and they just taste gross. Tooting my own horn, but I like how my cakes and icing taste the best, so I just make sure there’s room in my freezer and make them a few days early so that they’re done and ready to go. The money I paid for Braden’s last birthday cake and how awful it tasted made me vow to never buy another cake again!
I had extra cupcakes left from cupcakes I made for Braden’s class Easter party, so I threw some Wilton copper icing on them, the perfect fox orange, and made last-minute cupcake toppers that morning with toothpicks and extra stickers I had purchased as party favours.
When I was searching for fox cakes, these adorable fox cupcakes kept appearing in my feed, and they were so cute but they looked like WAY too much work. I had the brilliant idea of just simply making one, big two-layer cake that looked like one of the cupcakes.
It was very simple to decorate, I got lots of compliments, and I thought it tasted pretty darn good too!
Jonathan wasn’t too sure about his first piece of cake, but he did end up enjoying it!
The Birthday Shirt
Someone seriously loved the attention he got for his happy birthday song! I stuck with an Etsy lady that I’ve used for years, Ooe & Auti and she did not disappoint. Always order a size up, that’s my advice! Jonathan’s size 18 month t-shirt is already almost too small!
It was a simple first birthday, but I loved how it came together!
