When there’s a lot going on in our life I often do a currently post, and now is one of those times! So much is going on, so I’ll just sum it up like this…
Harvest. I feel like I’m so not ready to be in the harvest groove and having Jay gone 16+ hours a day, every day. Home in the mornings, and me single-parenting and putting all 3 kids to bed by myself unless he’s home and it’s raining. I’ll be fine, I always am, it’s just a period of adjustment that seems so night-and-day from our regular routine. I need to sit down and make a harvest meal plan. I’ll be cooking every third night for up to 8 adults (plus one boy who as an adult-like appetite now) and 4-7 kids. “I can’t even”, as they say, think far enough into the future when we are going to be feeding 5 boys with man-sized appetites. Oof. I’ll also have to coordinate having someone take care of Braden and Ethan while I zip to Edmonton for Jonathan’s appointments, which he’ll likely have every 2 weeks for the first while.
The busy week we have ahead. We’re actually heading out to the lake today for a day trip (YAY!!!!) and then tomorrow me and the boys go to Edmonton for at least 2 nights for Jonathan’s first follow-up appointment with his surgeon and also to get fitted for his helmet. He needs a helmet to help shape his head properly from his sagittal synostosis repair. He will work up to wearing his helmet 23 hours a day for 4-5 months. If I’m honest, I’m expecting the very worst and hoping for the best. I cannot imagine, for myself, how it would feel to wear a light plastic helmet 23 hours a day, but I know he’ll eventually adjust…it just might be a rough transition.
I’m also thinking about how I dropped trying to do my Project 365 (366 this year!) for 2016. It was just too much and I couldn’t keep up…but I have also MAJORLY slacked taking photos. That changes today!
A lot of writing, which is so nice. Jonathan is in a groove of going to bed between 10-12PM and he sleeps for about 12 hours every night…which gives me my entire mornings free, which makes me incredibly happy and productive! I am going to be a semi-regular contributor for Grainews magazine/blog, and I’ve just submitted my first 3 articles. It’s great to have another outlet to share, and one that also helps to support my family. You’ll be seeing a few more sponsored posts on my blog in the next few weeks and I hope you like them. I never ever work with a brand or a company sharing a message that I don’t personally believe in. I actually turn down more offers, because it’s not a good fit for my blog, than the ones I accept.
The Olympics! I love it all! I’ll watch any sport, any time, but track and field has started and that’s my favourite to watch! The boys have loved watching the Olympics with us, and Braden’s innocence of how it all works gave me such a chuckle! We were watching kayaking and he said that he would like to “try that at the Olympics one day”. He thought anyone could sign up for the Olympics and just try any sport they wanted to. 🙂
Also obsessing over new (to me) shows on Netflix to watch with all of our nursing sessions. I watched all of “The Mindy Project” which I really liked and now I’m almost done “The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt”. Any recommendations? Just wanting something light and funny!
Life. It’s simple and cliché, but I don’t know what else to say. Just trying to take life day by day and not worry too much for the future, or I’ll drive myself crazy. I’m looking forward to the changing of seasons with harvest starting in the field and the kids going back to school and Jonathan closer every day to having a perfectly shaped head.
Also loving that with Jonathan’s helmet and appointments, it will give me a chance to reconnect and visit with a lot of my Edmonton friends. Often when we’ve gone (the last 6.5 years!) to visit, we feel we don’t have the time or energy to visit a ton of people. It was usually just my mom, my brother’s family and then GG on the way to or from Edmonton. Now that we’ll be there so often I am going to visit with friends we haven’t seen in years and I’m looking so very forward to it.
Have a great weekend!
