I am justifying Ethan’s simple and easy Minions birthday party to the fact that Braden’s 3rd birthday also wasn’t anything terribly creative or special and I went over-the-top for Ethan’s previous parties, especially his Curious George party last year! Harvest just finished the Thursday before the weekend of his party and I was just spent and done with large meals and gatherings, so I wanted a quiet-ish and intimate party for Ethan. We invited my family — mom, brother and his family and Ethan’s best buddy Blake and his family and the kids all got along and had a great time!
I didn’t even have a special invite or custom decor like for my other parties. The theme truly was “simple” here! I did order Ethan’s birthday shirt from Etsy and the quality was really nice and super soft material, I highly recommend!
I kept the decor very simple with Minion blue and yellow. I bought the table cloth, plates, cups and utensils at the dollar store, as I didn’t love the pattern/colour/set of the stuff that they sell for Minions parties right now, but you can buy that stuff pretty much anywhere like at Walmart and a lot of grocery stores. I found Minion paper goggles at Walmart and used them to decorate the plates and the kids could wear them after too — easy and cute!
I did use PartyCity.ca again for some Minion straws for the drinks and favour cups to take their candy home in. I also bought a few swirl decorations to hang from our light and some balloons, but no banner…no nothing else this year! I always used my galvanized picnic caddy for utensils, so handy!
For lunch we just kept it super simple and kid-friendly: hot dogs and homemade hamburgers with some chips and punch. For the punch I just put some Minion paper goggles around my dispenser and voila! I used “not your Grandma’s lemonade” for the punch and it was delicious and yellow!
Cupcakes are so much easier (for me!) to make, so I bought blue Minion cupcake cups and the adorable Minion cupcake picks and they were so so cute! I always use this buttercream, it’s the very best and easy to work with! I already have a Wilton 4-tier cupcake stand.
I’ve discovered at our parties a piñata is a must now. The kids go crazy, fill it with simple candies like Rockets and suckers…and that’s their goodie bags to take home: candy from the piñata! Don’t mind our unfinished basement…it works best for the mess and whole hitting an object with a stick thing!
I’m calling this party one of my smartest and most successful! I just didn’t have the energy for a huge thing, my brother and husband helped so much with the food, it felt like I hardly had to do anything!
