Honey Garlic Meatballs

I make this meal about every 6 weeks (or more!) for my family because it is my kids’ favourite meal by far. Even my can-be-picky toddler always asks for seconds of this meal. I don’t know what makes this meal all that special, but it is definitely a favourite around here!

Honey Garlic Meatballs

  • 2 lbs extra-lean ground beef
  • 1 cup quick-rolled oats (or bread crumbs)
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 tsp garlic salt
  • 1 tsp garlic powder  (I use 2 tsp Garlic Plus instead of the garlic salt and powder)
  • 4 garlic cloves, pressed
  • 1 cup ketchup
  • 2/3 cup honey
  • 3 tbsp soy sauce

Preheat your oven to 375ºF. I love to make meatballs, don’t let them intimidate you, and you can see my favourite way to make them here. I use the same recipe for all my meatballs and just tweak the flavours a bit. Mix your ground beef, quick-rolled oats, eggs, milk and garlic seasonings together. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and place meatballs on it and cook for about 30-35 minutes or until no longer pink in the middle.

While the meatballs are cooking you can make the sauce. I keep it really simple and just tweaked my honey garlic BBQ sauce a bit for these meatballs. Place all the sauce ingredients: pressed garlic cloves, ketchup, honey and soy sauce—in a large sauce pan and heat through. Add meatballs to sauce, toss and serve!
Honey Garlic Meatballs. The perfect kid-friendly meal! Follow my easy-to-make meatball recipe and my homemade honey garlic sauce!

If you like this, be sure to try:

For my family of four I make all the meatballs, coat them all in sauce and freeze half. Then they just need to be warmed up and it’s an easy freezer meal for a busy night!

Alternately, you can cook in the morning, make the sauce, and place the meatballs and sauce in your slow cooker just for an hour or two on the low setting until the sauce is nice and heated through, then keep on warm. Unfortunately if you leave it in all afternoon on low, the bottom layer will caramelize and start to burn. If you’re at home and want to keep on low, just be sure to stir every once in awhile.

So I took this recipe and converted it to a meatloaf recipe for the instant pot. It was a success. My son said for out of 5 stars, this meal deserves infinity! Lol! He loved the honey garlic sauce. Thank you for such a great recipe. I’ll be using this recipe for the sauce for the rest of his life I’m sure. Lol, he’s 6 so I think we’ll be eating this once a month until he graduates. Thank you!

I have made these several times. these are my now favorite meatballs.
I make and freeze them, They are my go to if I need to whip up
something quickly, Not to saucy either but great flavor. I usually
serve them with mashed potato and hot buttered carrots. This
is a keeper.

Made this tonight but changed some things about the recipe. Added 1/2 cup shredded sharp cheddar, and 1/2tsp each of smoked paprika, and red pepper flakes to the meatballs along with a dash of hot sauce. I like them spicy. I also found that it played off VERY well with the sweetness of the sauce. 🙂 Will be making it again.

Hi Sarah! I just made this recipe and it was so yummy!!!! I was very pleased with the result! Easy to make, with simple ingredients yet so rich in taste and fancy looking!!! I did reduce the honey a little bit as well because my husband doesn’t like too sweet food. Thank you so much for sharing i will definitely make them again and again! All the best to you and your family!

I made these tonight, and they were lovely. I used mixed ground very low fat chicken, and 15 per cent fat beef. I halved the amount of honey, added a little brown sugar, and some orange juice, and sesame seeds to the sauce. So glad I found it, I shall make it again. Thank you Sarah.

I made it and loved it. Thank you so much. I did not have garlic cloves so for each clove I used a 1/8 garlic powder as a substitute. It was delicious.

Hi, first of all to Jessica, I thought I had the quick oats, but they were the old fashioned ones and they worked great!!! These were delicious! We loved everything about them. Thanks!!!

If you use old fashioned oats just grind them in a blender first. It mixes well after that.

Does it matter if I use old fashioned oats versus quick oats?
