Things I can’t control of course, what else would I be obsessing over? Isn’t that what an obsession is? Truth is, I’m slowly coming to terms that my Type A self cannot control things at all, and I’m doing this with a lot of prayer and devotions. I was recently asked not to talk to someone anymore—I had previously been trying to let this person know that they’re loved and that I care for them—but I guess they aren’t ready to embrace it and that’s okay. I’m tired of “typing on eggshells” as things I say or do on the interwebs get misconstrued and taken personally when they are not meant to be, unless you’re an anti-GMO activist, in which I say that if we disagree on things and have different views, I just want you to treat me with respect and stop calling me names. (Though I just think that’s how it should be in all aspects of life).
I’m tired of being worried about sharing my faith, my views on agriculture, my parenting methods and other topics for fear of hurting feelings. Not everyone will agree with any of us on every single decision we make and everything we share—we’re bound to unintentionally offend people. Truth is, I pay to own this website and to blog here, so I figure I should be able to share and document as I please without the worry that I will offend someone, it’s unfortunately inevitable that I will, yet of course I don’t do this with malice or intent…and if you think I do that, then you really don’t know me.
How fun and busy our summer is going to be. As of right now I have everything planned for our whole summer with very little wiggle room. We will always have to see how the weather is on my days off to take day trips to the lake and we also plan on doing some redneck camping with the neighbors in their pasture which is right behind our house, over the hill so that if things go sour we’re literally 5 minutes away from home! I am working all summer 2 -4 eight hour night shifts per week, depending on the week. We are taking our annual week-long family trip to BC, we are going to Vancouver Island for a wedding (just me and Jay!) in August and we’re vacationing in our city of Calgary next month for a blog tour, which I’m really excited about. Also thinking about how glad I am that Braden’s first school year is done. He’ll be doing one more year of playschool and starting kindergarten in the fall of 2016! Doing
Working lots, cleaning lots, lots of yard work, gardening, running around—but it’s all good. It’s good to be busy and such a rewarding feeling seeing our landscaping take place. We planted more seedlings this year and replaced the ones that didn’t make it last year. We’re growing American Elms in our front yard and on the side of our driveway and poplars on the west side of our garden near our shelter belt of Colorado spruce and caraganas. Also loving going on evening walks with the dog!
The X-Men movies as we got to go on a date a couple of weeks ago to see the new X-Men movie so we’re just re-watching the movies as we have time. I also really enjoyed watching Braden play T-ball this year. By “playing” I mean watching as the awesome coaches organize a group of 3-4 year olds take turns hitting the ball, teaching them how to throw, and letting them run around. Something of an organized chaos, but the kids have tons of fun! The parents are encouraged to help out, so Jay was able to come after seeding was done and Ethan LOVED running around with the kids too!
The new She Reads Truth study packs. I am very far behind on their Titus study as they’re into Ruth now, which I’m excited to dive into. I need to make time daily for devotions, but somehow sometimes the days get away from me. Ideally I would love to sit on my deck with a coffee and my studies as the saying goes “when I wake, give me a little bit of coffee and a whole lot of Jesus”, but the mornings are busy with the kids so I usually study during Ethan’s nap or after the kids are in bed. I’m a better person when I’m in the Word.
I need to slow down on the eating! I’m obsessed with The Kitchen Magpie’s salt & pepper chicken wings and I’ve made them 3 times in a month for an after-supper snack. I planned on baking more with my rhubarb but then I got super busy with work and in all honesty, I don’t bake too much in the summer now that the weather seems to be sticking above 20ºC and summer is going to officially stick around. It’s BBQ season and I need to find healthier snacks to munch on. We’re outside all the time, going on lots of walks, I just ordered PiYo—Chalene Johnson’s new workout video—it’s low impact and a combo of Pilates and yoga…so I’m excited to give it a go!
So, in a nutshell, that’s what’s currently going on.
