I am a big fan of the blog Baby Rabies. Jill, the author, is hilarious, real, and I’ve always felt like I can relate to her as a mom. She’s one of the “big” bloggers who has always taken time to get to know the “little” bloggers like me—she’s just plain awesome. I remember seeing on her blog’s Facebook page awhile ago that her “Mommy Truths” graphics were being altered (stolen) and shared all over Facebook. Thousands of shares, completely unaccredited to her, when credit was due! She wrote a post called Think And Link Before You Share and sadly, now I can relate:
You’ve seen these Facebook pages before. The images that they harvest from Google or Pinterest pop up in your newsfeed probably 10 times a day from a friend who “liked” it because it was funny, sweet, sad. These pages are gathering images from online searches without taking any time to source out the original page it showed up on, and using them to increase their Facebook page visibility.
Hi Sarah. As we found the image uncredited and on another site, we did not realise you had originally created it with those particular words. As yours contains a spelling mistake, we could not share it, but I have credited you by name on our image share on Facebook. Thanks for getting in touch.
We’ll take it down, but with all due respect, that image is getting tossed around on every parenting page on FB and ALL over Pinterest.
