It has been WAY too long since I’ve documented a full day in the life, the last time I did it Braden was about Ethan’s age! Since it was our weekly theme for Catch the Moment 365, I challenged our group to document a day in their lives and make it a separate post! I got enough interest that there is a linky below, so please feel free to link up. It will be open for 2 weeks for anyone to participate in. I’ve gotten asked by a few people “how do I do it all” on a day-to-day basis. My life is pretty simple, I don’t work full-time like so many of my blogging friends do, but when it comes down to it, it’s all about balance. I feel lately like I just moonlight as a nurse, as when I do work I often choose night shifts and I am definitely more of a SAHM/WAHM than I am at the hospital, which is exactly the way I like it. So, here’s a glimpse in a day of our life at home:
[Warning: this is a very picture-heavy post and might take awhile to load!]
The kids usually wake around 6:45 but lazy mommy doesn’t go get them until after 7…today they slept later so I got them later!
Next we come out to the living area, turn on the TV (Frozen lately, of course), the dog is having a last rest on the couch before the boys start getting too loud, and I grab a yogurt for Braden and Ethan’s milk while I get their breakfasts ready.
Someone is always chomping at the bit for breakfast because a certain someone doesn’t always eat a lot at supper. That someone, is clearly Ethan!
The kids are done their breakfast, Jay wanders out around 8 and I surprise him that I’m going to have my camera in my hands all day! If you follow me on Instagram, you’ve probably seen in my Target trips that I love cannisters with chalkboard labels. I use one of them for our coffee grounds. I like a little coffee in my creamer.
It was a bit quiet at this point in time, and when it’s quite, Ethan is often playing trains in Braden’s room, which is exactly where he was. I knew he wouldn’t want to miss his infamous 2nd breakfast.
I really do spend a lot of my day on my computer; definitely all of my morning. It’s located on the island in our kitchen so I’ve always got a great view of the kids and can help them as they need. It’s getting easier and easier as they get older and even more independent with their play. I have more than enough work—both paid and voluntary—to keep me busy almost all day.
Braden is very into Star Wars lately and this is his “galactic battle ship”. He so longs to be playing outside…me too, buddy….me too!
I am trying to make a point of keeping Ethan up later in the morning. If it were up to him he’d be down at 10, sleep for a couple of hours and then be up the rest of the day…which he doesn’t handle all that well. Braden had an awful time transitioning to 1 nap a day too. This is a “can I please have a nap now, Mommy?” face.
Getting a roast in the slow cooker for supper shortly after 10AM. Just with some mushroom soup and dry onion soup mix.
In the meantime I’m also sneaking back into the laundry room, which is just off the kitchen, to keep up with laundry. Thanks for the cute mat, Momsie!
Papa came over to take Daddy into town for some meetings and lunch but of course he has to say hi to and play with the boys a bit first.
Ethan is seriously longing for nap time, but it’s only 11AM, bud!
It’s just easier to take pictures of Ethan, honestly. He doesn’t make goober faces and run away from me….yet. But when I’m taking pics of Ethan Braden always asks for me to take a picture. Then he gives me a weird face like this and never looks at the camera.
It was getting quiet again, so I went to where I can find Ethan 90% of the time…
Then around 12:15 I was getting this zoned-out-zombie-baby look…
So I figured I kept him up long enough and put him down to bed.
Big brother wanted to play with homemade play dough, and I headed off for a shower…finally!
Don’t worry, I got a loooooooooong overdue cut and color yesterday, my hair was so “blah” and shapeless.
Braden’s not really into lunches…so I’ve been trialing more of a “snack” so he’ll eat better at supper. But? He hardly ate any of this because he just started getting another head cold on Monday. Oh well.
Snooping through a Pioneer Woman cook book for a different way to do potatoes with our roast for supper.
I have done more blogging, research, online work, posted our first blog post of the season on the Aggie Days blog, kept up with laundry in the meantime, but now it’s time for this cutie to wake up from a nice 2.5 hour nap. I get him out of bed around 3:30.
They really love to play in Ethan’s room for a bit right after he gets up from his nap.
If you are at the computer, Ethan will find you…and want up into your lap…to watch YouTube videos.
Shortly after 5 supper is ready and I decided to try these yummy potatoes!
One of our friends made fun of Jay for often being on the couch when I take pictures of him. He swears he isn’t always there…but…
I hope you enjoyed our day in the life post and I hope to do these a few times a year. It’s nice to look back and see what our days were like and how our routines have changed! Please feel free to join the link up, it will be open until March 19 and anyone is welcome to join, whether you’re a part of our Catch the Moment 365 group or not! It’s a great blog project, have lots of fun!
