On Sunday we had our precious baby Ethan dedicated. We made the choice 3 years ago to have Braden dedicated and there wasn’t a doubt that we were going to do the same for Ethan. We decided with our pastor that we would choose to dedicate our children vs. baptize, and if you want to know more about that you can read here. It was an extra special occasion to have Ethan dedicated in the same church we were married in, as exactly 6 years ago on July 7, 2007 we were married on the same stage that Ethan was dedicated. I tear up almost every time I think of how blessed we are to have our babies. That God sent Jay to me and me to him, that He chose us to be Braden and Ethan’s parents, and that we are all His children. It’s just an indescribable and overwhelming feeling. Our friend Travis was kind enough to sing for Ethan on his dedication. Before the dedication he sang “Because He Lives” and it made me tear up, this song was so perfect and Travis has one of the most amazing voices I’ve ever heard.
How sweet to hold a newborn baby,
And feel the pride and joy he gives;
But greater still the calm assurance:
This child can face uncertain days because He Lives!
Here is Ethan’s dedication service if you would like to see it – thank you Uncle Craig for taping this with my iPhone because my camera card was full – oops!
After Ethan was dedicated Travis sang “Be Thou My Vision” which is a song that will always be near and dear to my heart. It’s my favorite hymn and I chose it for Dad’s funeral too. Because of Papa’s prayer for Ethan before the song, Travis told me he got a little choked up…which is why the first couple of lines of the song Travis was a bit “off” but it makes it all the more special to me.
I also pray that Ethan will grow a heart for God. He is such a tenderhearted, content, happy little baby right now and I am amazed at how gracious God has been to him already. We’re so blessed to have this baby in our lives. Thank you to our church family for promising to nurture Ethan to grow up in the knowledge and the love of Christ, and to his godparents Samantha and Vince for being there for our little boy, you two will be amazing spiritual leaders and role models for Ethan.
People were bringing little children to Jesus for him to touch them, but the disciples rebuked them.
When Jesus saw this, he was indignant.
He said to them, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these.
Truly I tell you, anyone who will not receive the kingdom of God like a little child will never enter it.”
And he took the children in his arms, put his hands on them and blessed them.
Thank you for taking pictures….and consoling me, Poppy!
