Bye, bye, Alberta! We’re moving to Maui! Okay…maybe we couldn’t move to Maui on $50 000 but that’s what dreams are made of, right? We’d definitely go back and maybe stay for a whole month. (Excuse me while I daydream a little bit here…)
But in all seriousness…what would I do with $50 000? The responsible thing to do would be to pay off the remainder of our line of credit and then to finish the basement in our house. I’d definitely put a good chunk into the boys’ RESP account and also put away a little vacation fund to take the boys to Disneyland when Ethan is old enough – I cannot WAIT to go back to Disneyland with my own kids!
Jay and I love to travel and I’m so glad that we got to do quite a lot of travelling in the 2.5 years we were married before we had kids…which is one of the reasons why we wanted to wait. We spent 3 glorious weeks in Thailand right when we decided to start trying for a family. Our dream vacation is to go to Africa. We definitely don’t want to do this with our kids, so that will be our empty nest vacation I think!

My parents are 95 and 88 years old.I would like them to have every comfort in their remaining years.$50,000 would help a great deal to provide more in-home care and/or time in a nice seniors residence.They worked hard all their lives and are both cancer survivors.My dad has just had a re-occurence of a severe malignancy on his face.I would not want any of the money for myself.This would be a great Thank-You prize for them.

Sadly, $50,000 would pay off only most of our non-mortgage debt, but it would also take away a HUGE amount of monthly payments that would probably put us in the clear for a bigger mortgage – yay! So, definitely paying off debt, but that would bring me that much closer to my dream house!
